Matthew R. Heusser

Managing Director | Excelon Development

Wielding expertise in software development and risk management over the course of three decades, Matthew R. Heusser has been active as the managing director at Excelon Development, LLC since 2004. At the firm, he’s responsible for account management, sales, marketing, and operations, recently working on projects within the eCommerce, automotive, financial technology, manufacturing, and supply industries. In the midst of this role, he lent his services to Priority Health as a project manager and software developer; taught as a part-time instructor of computer science and information systems at Calvin College, now Calvin University; and a member of the technical staff at Socialtext. He began his career as a programmer and analyst at PCR.

In addition, Mr. Heusser has excelled as a contributor and editor to a wide variety of companies over the years, serving as a contributing columnist and adviser at STPCollaborative from 2008 to 2013 and an editor-in-chief for a website geared toward software quality engineering—where he advised and provided technical edits for a weekly column on testing and risk management. In 2018, he served as the lead editor on the book of technical essays “How to Reduce the Cost of Software Testing” and in 2023 was the lead author of “Software Testing Strategies: A testing guide for the 2020s.”

Outside of his primary endeavors, he has been active as a volunteer substitute teacher since 2024. He also stays connected to his fields as a member of the Association for Software Testing.

Growing up in Maryland, Mr. Heusser credits much of his success to his father, a federal executive in the senior executive service. It was instilled in him from a young age how valuable it is to work hard and persevere; he was also taught to prioritize dedication and commitment in the workplace, understanding these qualities leave a lasting impression. Enlisting in the U.S. Army Reserve upon graduating from high school, he prepared for his professional journey by earning a Bachelor of Science in mathematics and computer science from Salisbury University and later a master’s degree in computer information systems from Grand Valley State University.

Looking toward the future, Mr. Heusser envisions transitioning from individual accomplishments to actively engaging in global assistance and expansion. He ultimately aspires to witness the steady maturation and growth of the investment business.
